Description

Feeling stuck, unmotivated, discouraged about your art practice or lack thereof?  Time to feed your creative soul. Time to create. When we engage in a creative process we are writing a language that brings a renewed excitement and understanding to our thoughts, emotions and our artistic journey.

As in the Embrace the Sketchbook workshop, Martha will lead you through a series of processes and techniques that help you to become inspired.  In this 4-hour workshop by engaging in serious play through exercises and collaborations artists may discover skills to overcome artistic blocks.  Enjoying the process of creating is the goal of this workshop. What it is not is making a precious finished piece. Artists will discover fresh ideas to pursue in their studio practice and ways to feed their creative soul.

*A list of supplies to bring will be sent to attendees once they register. Supplemental supplies will be provided by the instructor for a $10 cash fee*

About the instructor: Martha Wakefield, artist, instructor and mentor, has been producing works of extraordinary imagination for many years.

Born and raised in Maine, Wakefield is deeply attuned to its sea swept lands and unforgiving shore.  Her internal geography of memory and impression originates in Maine and serves as a springboard for studies of love, loss, and deep emotions.  Schooled at the University of Vermont and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Wakefield returned to Boston following a successful career in New York City’s fashion industry to pursue her unfinished business as a full time artist.  She has studied with Wolf Kahn, Skip Lawrence, Stuart Shils and Jon Imber.

Her work strives to capture the importance of this world – its mysterious and ancient past, as well as its continual rebirth and regeneration.  And so she makes art, writes about it, and teaches it to others - it’s more likely than not that she dreams of it too.  She is represented by Powers Gallery of Acton, MA and Law & Water Gallery of Gloucester, MA.  Wakefield’s many awards and presence in private and corporate collections internationally stand testament to her longstanding dedication and talents.
