Description

Embrace the Sketchbook with Martha Wakefield

The sketchbook is a wonderful tool in any studio practice to improve creativity, explore ideas, stay inspired and motivated. It becomes a visual diary committing to paper those ideas rattling around in the right hemisphere of the brain. We will review some master artists' sketchbooks (most are messy, yet inspiring) and experiment with a variety of materials from a simple pencil to a diverse choice of markers, paints, papers and collage materials. Through various exercises, participants can engage in the process of playing as it is the beginning stage of creativity; allowing more risk-taking since a "finished" piece is not the final goal in this workshop. At the end, an artist should find some gems to explore further in their art practice.

Maximum 10 participants. Open to all experience levels. There will be a $10 materials fee.

About Martha Wakefield

Martha Wakefield, artist, instructor and mentor, has been teaching artists of all skill levels at art organizations in the Boston area for many years. Wakefield has created and continues to teach the following workshops: Alchemy of Color I & II, Embrace the Sketchbook, FEED Your Creative Soul and Intro to Cold Wax Medium with Oil. She creates a supportive environment helping artists from understanding the basics of painting to discovering and encouraging their unique voices.

Wakefield's own work explores the fragility of memory. She is intrigued by how memory morphs from persistent vividness to fleeting passages to total loss. Wakefield has won many awards for her work and is featured in private and corporate collections internationally. She is represented by Powers Gallery in Acton, MA.
