Description

Miniature Botanic Paper Cuts

THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD ON ZOOM

The art of paper cutting has been reemerging in recent years after first being seen in the 6th century. The tools remain the same, but modern techniques help create incredible effects. A finished cutout can resemble lacework. The single sheet of paper is transformed into a new, transparent form, creating a mesmerizing effect that begs the question: how is it done?

Join us for a course on the meditative process of paper cutting. Participants will master this delicate art-making process so as to create their own finished paper cutout. The instructor will demonstrate her cutout process and share insights on how to choose materials. A finished cutout may look daunting to create, but with a bit of guidance, participants will feel empowered by the personal process of creating an intricate work of art.

About Maria Palkon

Maria Palkon is a Polish artist and educator currently based in the Boston area. She is trained in traditional art-making techniques, but her preferred medium is paper. You will find her studio lined with framed cutouts, and her sketchbooks filled with designs that have yet to be transformed. Apart from using paper to make transparent cutouts, she also specializes in paper miniatures, creating detailed interior scenes that can fit on the tip of a finger. When she's not in her studio, Maria teaches toddlers how to use art materials to be their happiest, most inspired selves.
