Description

Tunnel Books, with Alice Stanne

THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD ON ZOOM

Tunnel books, created from cut layered paper at spaced intervals, allow artists to depict a variety of compositions while playing with depth, dimension, and lighting - both real and contrived. In this workshop students will learn the basics of designing and constructing their own tunnel book, along with learning how to maximize the potential of a three dimensional picture plane to tell stories, use depth to convey space and time, or simply create a unique dimensional piece either realistic or abstract. Students will use class time to work on their own tunnel book and receive one-on-one support from the instructor.

Students should come prepared with several sheets of medium to heavy weight paper and their favorite art making materials such as watercolors, colored pencils, collage papers, photographs, etc. to design their tunnel book.

Tools required:

- Exacto knife with refill blades

- Self healing cutting mat (recommended minimum size: 12 x 18in)

- Straight edge (ruler or triangle)

- Bone folder or clean wooden spoon

All program registrations close 1 week prior to the program date, at 5pm.

ZOOM links for all classes are sent out the day before the first class date, no later than 5pm.

About Alice Stanne

Alice Stanne is Boston-based handmade book artist and illustrator.  She combines her watercolor and cut paper illustrations with various book-binding techniques to create one of a  kind artist books, rich with detail and pattern. Working mostly on a small scale, her style and concepts add touches of whimsy to themes of nature and architecture, often inspired by research into history and folklore.

Alice attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she earned a BFA with Honors in Illustration. She now teaches book-making and illustration classes there for the undergraduate Illustration and  Continuing Education programs.
