Description

Exploring Paper Art & Collage, with Hollie Chastain

This program will meet on ZOOM for (5) consecutive Wednesdays, April 13 - May 11 (6:00-8:00pm).

Mixed media can be a vast and sometimes overwhelming endeavor when diving in for the first time. In this workshop series I'll guide you through useful information for those who are new to creative endeavors, new to collage, or those who want to learn some new techniques and perspectives. We will work through different methods and applications of collage and mixed media, incorporating paper weaving, embroidery, paint and others with a focus on composition and choosing "what stays and what goes" when the options are limitless. Most of the time will be spent experimenting and gathering skills, inspiration, and techniques to carry forth into your own paper art and collage practice but workshoppers should also end the class with a few finished pieces.

Registrants are required to acquire and/or purchase their own materials for the workshop. See Materials List here.

About Hollie Chastain

Hollie Chastain is a paperphile artist and illustrator working in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Coming from both a graphic design and studio art background, her work has a story-telling quality, mixing found material, strong graphic elements, and modern palettes. Texture plays an important role to her so her illustration process, like her studio work, starts with an analog foundation. She is deeply inspired by folklore, music, and the unknown and has a passion for folk art and self-taught artists. Her first book, If You Can Cut You Can Collage was released in November 2017 through Quarto Publishing.
