Description

Creating NFTs: From Start to Finish, with Demetri Espinosa

Wednesdays, October 12, 19, and 26 (6:30-8:30pm) on ZOOM

NFTs have been a hot topic in the art world as of late. Are you curious to create your own NFT, or even just learn more about this technology? Then this workshop is for you! We’ll cover everything you need to know to mint (create) your first NFT from start to finish, step-by-step, over three short sessions.

Session 1 - October 12:

  • Brief introduction, followed by a deep-dive into the tech: What is crypto, what is a wallet, what is a token, how does it all work (30 minutes).
  • Signing up for an account on a cryptocurrency exchange (such as Coinbase) and purchasing crypto. (30 minutes)
  • Creating a non-custodial wallet and transferring your crypto into it from the exchange (30 minutes)
  • Understanding best practices for wallet safety and security (30 minutes)

Session 2 - October 19:

  • Overview of minting process, including platforms, file types, and other options (30 minutes)
  • Setting up an account on Opensea (30 minutes)
  • Step-by-step how to mint (60 minutes)

Session 3 - October 26:

  • Where do I display my NFTs? What can I do with them?
  • Tie-up any loose ends.
  • Ample space for Q&A
  • Next steps on your NFT journey

Please note: There are some basic necessities that you’ll want to make sure you already have before signing up. Since we’ll be dealing with cryptocurrency, at a minimum you’ll need the following:

  • A debit card
  • A bank account
  • Access to a computer

And while we’ll certainly be covering a lot of new concepts in this workshop, you’ll want to be sure you already have a basic level of computer literacy, particularly with navigating the internet and uploading image files. Crucially, please keep in mind that we will not be creating new artwork as part of this workshop. Rather we’ll be turning your existing artwork into NFTs. With that in mind, please be sure that you already have the image(s) of your artwork that you’d like to turn into an NFT. Those images could be JPEGs, PNGs, SVGs, or one of a dozen other image file formats; just make sure they are high quality images (2000px on the longest side is a good start, but the larger the better). And the artwork is—of course—up to you! Whatever you feel makes sense as an NFT.

Last, please be aware that an unavoidable part of minting NFTs is transaction fees, which can vary wildly based on network activity. With that in mind, I recommend having an extra $20-$50 to cover these costs.

Maximum number of attendees: 25
