Fair use and copyright law for artists, followed by a Q&A with copyright lawyer Drew Epstein

Tuesday, October 17 (7:00-8:00pm) on Zoom

$15 CAA Member; $20 General Admission

What exactly is "fair use" and how does it apply to your daily art practice? Are you a mixed-media artist, collage artist and/or digital artist who incorporates existing source material into your work? Do you worry about fair use but are afraid to ask? In this introductory presentation, Drew Epstein will explain the basics of fair use for artists, using examples pulled from recent art and intellectual property rulings. After the presentation, Drew will answer all of your questions in a Q&A format.

About Andrew ("Drew") Epstein | Drew Epstein is a trial attorney with over three decades of successful jury and non-jury trial and appellate court experience in both Massachusetts and Federal courts. He is a partner in the Boston law firm Baker, Epstein & Loscocco. Epstein’s practice focuses on copyright infringement, trademark, contracts and licensing issues. He has successfully represented clients in a wide variety of cases, including multi-million dollar personal injury actions, $1.2 million for damaging several works of art and $1.1 million for copyright infringement.

Epstein is also the president of the Board of Directors for the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, Massachusetts.
