Advanced Website Design Using Squarespace, with Gayle Mahoney

Mondays, September 25, October 2, 16, 23, 30 and November 6 (6:00-8:00pm) on Zoom

$140 CAA Member; $160 General Admission

This class is for artists who currently have a live Squarespace website but want to customize the design and/or add more functionality to the site, or for people who have an older SQS site that they want to switch to the latest version.

In this course, you will learn:

  • How to customize your website design using CSS code to make it beautiful and unique
  • How to add functionality such as setting up member areas and time-saving automations
  • Using the Squarespace’s built-in Email marketing platform
  • How to improve traffic to your website using SEO best practices; how to use Chrome Developer Tool, Google Search Console, Google Analytics and to improve your website traffic and content
  • How to create strategies for creating and posting content and optimizing your shop


Session 1: Deep Dive into Design
In this session we will learn about new SQS design tools included in the Fluid Engine design system; graphic design principles and working with a grid

Session 2: Anyone Can Code!
How to use Site Styles and CSS code to tweak your design across the site and for individual content blocks; plus design resources including CSS code, images and other design elements

Session 3: Make Your Website WORK IT!
Automations and extra functionality in SQS: Email marketing, E-commerce, and social media linking; scheduling and additional interactive tools

Session 4: Create A Special Place for Your Collectors and Fans
Member areas, subscriptions and monetizing your content

Session 5: Session 3: SEO for Artists
Drive more traffic to your site by using correct site structure, authoritative content and proper headings and titles

Session 6: Developer Tools and Design Resources
Learn how to use tools like Google Search Console, Google Analytics and Google Developer Tools to increase traffic and optimize your website

Each session will be recorded and emailed to participants.

Materials List for Attendees: You must have a live Squarespace site that you either created or regularly manage updates (either version 7.0 or 7.1) You should be comfortable with basic SQS skills like adding pages, text and images; creating links and organizing your navigation. You must be comfortable with technology and proficient in computer skills such as using software like Word/Pages, email, able to navigate the internet. Familiarity with Zoom and the ability to share your screen for troubleshooting and/or feedback on your site.

 

 

About Gayle Mahoney

Gayle Mahoney runs a branding and design company specializing in the art and design industry. She started her career as an art director at magazines and advertising agencies in New York City, developing ad campaigns, branding and websites for many Fortune 500 companies. She has bridged her marketing and art experience by working as an arts marketing consultant, developing marketing strategy, communications plans and ad campaigns for museums, arts nonprofits and many individual artists. She has been designing websites since 1999, and has taught art business and website classes since 2010 at art centers, craft schools and online. 

Mahoney has been a professional artist for more than 20 years. She has worked in watercolors, acrylics, ceramics and metal arts. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Skidmore College in “Art in Society.” She also studied studio art at San Francisco State University, the Montclair Art Museum, and the NJ Visual Arts Center in Summit.
