What do the terms "modern" and "post-modern" mean with regards to art from the last half-century?

 

How does one differentiate these terms and use them in one's own work?

 

Lesley MFA in Visual Arts Director Ben Sloat will give a free 40 minute public talk on these issues with a Q&A to follow.

Presenter bio: Born and raised in New York City, Ben Sloat earned degrees from UC Berkeley and the SMFA.  His work has been shown in venues such as the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Dublin City Gallery/The Hugh Lane; Peabody Essex Museum; Northwest Museum; and Queens Museum. Solo exhibitions include those at Das Klohauschen in Munich; Steven Zevitas Gallery in Boston; Coop Gallery in Nashville; Galerie Laroche/Joncas in Montreal; MMX in Berlin; Gallery 126 in Galway; Front Gallery in Oakland; and ACC Gallery in Taipei. He is represented by Steven Zevitas Gallery in Boston.

He is the director of the MFA in Visual Arts program at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
