Februllage Launch Party!

Create an Exquisite Corpse with collage artists Mary Lewey and Stephanie Todhunter

Wednesday, January 31 (3-5pm) at the kathryn Schultz Gallery

20 max

$10 CAA Member; $20 General Admission

Please bring the following to this event: old magazines, XACTO blades or scissors, and some pre-cut images for collaging.

(other materials that would be helpful but not required: small cutting boards and glue sticks).

Bring your old magazines and your scissors (or XACTO blades if you have them) and kick-off a month of collage making by creating a collaborative Exquisite Corpse collage with Mary Lewey and Stephanie Todhunter!

Exquisite Corpse

A game in which each participant takes turns collaging onto a sheet of paper, folds it into thirds to conceal their contribution, and then passes it to the next player for a further contribution. (This type of game gained popularity in artistic circles during the 1920s when it was adopted as a technique by artists of the Surrealist movement to generate collaborative compositions.)

Mary and Stephanie will time the event- each artist will have a set time to add their details.  They recommend bringing some pre-cut collage materials to this event, to facilitate the process.

There will be snacks and beverages- just bring your materials and lots of enthusiasm!

What is Februllage?

Februllage is a collaboration between Edinburgh Collage Collective and the Scandinavian Collage Museum. This initiative invites collage artists to make a “collage a day” throughout the month of February using the Februllage Official Word Prompt Calendar for 2024.

Participating artists are asked to set their own goals, whether they choose to make a collage a day or twice a week. Artists are invited to use #februllage or #februllage2024 so the works can be showcased with daily uploads.

We will be sharing our daily/weekly collages with the  #CAAfebrullage hashtag on Instagram.

Mary Lewey completed her first collage series in 2013 as part of the Fun-A-Day Project, making one collage per day for an entire month. Since then, her love of the medium and its possibilities continues to grow. She regularly exhibits in galleries and art spaces in Greater Boston. Mary enjoys customizing her images into album artwork for local musicians. Work from her "Living for Today" series adorns the Studio Allston Hotel as wallpaper. And a collaborative animation centered on the effects of climate change at a local level won an award from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She is a member of Cambridge Art Association and proudly served on its board of directors. Above all, she is grateful for her supportive husband, joyful daughter, sweet son, and nosy cat, who inspire her to stay curious.
